Stainless steel flat bar products.
Flat bar is a rectangular-section flat profile defined by thickness and width (for example 5x40 mm). It can be produced by hot rolling, slitting from strip or cutting from plate; the edge condition (rolled, slit, machined) varies with the product. For bright flat bar, tolerances follow EN 10278, and the material follows EN 10088-3 and ASTM A276/A479.
It is used for flanges, brackets, connecting plates, frames and grids, railing details, machine parts and tank reinforcement. 304 is common for general work, 316 in chloride environments, and 430 in interior work. Flat bars are mostly processed further by cutting, drilling, bending and welding.
Thickness, size and tolerance values vary by product form; exact values are confirmed during the quotation.
A selection guide based on general industry knowledge. Which grades are supplied is confirmed in the quotation.
Brackets, connecting plates, frames and general machine parts.
Flanges, brackets and reinforcement in chemical, coastal and chloride-exposed environments.
Interior applications. Welding and outdoor performance are below 304.
Flat bar is a narrow, flat strip form (width generally about 10 - 200 mm) supplied in set thicknesses and lengths. Plate is a wide flat product cut to the required size. Flat bar is preferred for small parts and fittings, plate for wide surfaces.
A rolled edge is slightly rounded and a little rough; a slit edge is straighter but may have burrs; a machined edge is the most even. For visible parts and weld preparation, the edge condition should be stated when ordering.
Both are austenitic grades. 316 contains roughly 2 - 2.5% molybdenum, which raises resistance to chloride and pitting corrosion. For general brackets and frames 304; in chloride environments 316 is preferred.
It depends on the product type: standards such as EN 10088-3 for rolled product and EN 10278 for bright product; for flat bar cut from plate, the tolerance of the cutting method applies. If a tight tolerance is needed, it should be stated when ordering.
