Supplier types when buying stainless steel sheet in Istanbul, what to prepare for a quote, what to check on delivery, and the processes offered by the Güven Paslanmaz service center in Dudullu OSB.
There are many companies selling stainless steel sheet in Istanbul, and each gives a different answer to the same question. The way to resolve this confusion is to split what you are looking for into three parts: which material (grade, thickness, surface), in which form (coil, flat sheet, cut-to-size part, bent part) and with which document.
Until these three parts are settled, talking about price and lead time is inefficient. Whether the same 2 mm sheet is 304 or 316, 2B or No.4, and whether it arrives as a ready size or laser-cut changes the quote from the start. To choose the grade for your environment, the 304 or 316 article helps, and for the surface, the surface types article does.
It makes things easier to think of suppliers in Istanbul in three groups according to the service they offer. Which one suits you depends on your volume of work and how you will use the material.
If you are a fabricator with your own laser, press brake and welding shop, flat sheet or coil is often enough and you do the cutting yourself. If your shop only does assembly or your parts are very varied, buying cut-to-size and bent parts ready-made saves time. For jobs in between, mixed solutions are also common, such as giving the cutting to the supplier and doing the bending yourself.
| Type | What it offers | Cut to size | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Producer (mill) | Coil and plate in large lots, mostly sold by the ton | Generally none | Buyer with a single grade, a single size and continuous, high volume |
| Stockist / dealer | Standard-size sheet, pipe and profile from ready stock | Limited or subcontracted | Buyer for whom standard sizes are enough and who has their own processing line |
| Service center | Stock and processing together: cut-to-length, slitting, laser cutting, bending | Yes, to the order size | Buyer with variable size and process needs who wants a single point of contact |
What slows down the quote process most is missing information. The list below covers almost everything a supplier should ask. Writing it all out at the start saves both your time and the seller's.
| Information | Why it is needed | Example entry |
|---|---|---|
| Grade | Composition, corrosion behavior and processing parameters depend on it | 304L, 316L, 430 |
| Thickness | Thickness tolerance and weight calculation | 2.0 mm |
| Size | Standard sheet or cut to size | 1250 x 2500 mm or per drawing |
| Surface | Appearance, cleanability, subsequent processing | 2B, BA, No.4 (brushed) |
| Quantity or weight | Stock, shipment and processing plan | 40 sheets or 2 tons |
| Document | Traceability, specification compliance | EN 10204 3.1 |
| Processing | Whether cutting, bending and grinding will be done at the same service center | Laser cutting + bending, DXF attached |
| Delivery | Address, requested date, loading method | Pickup with my own vehicle or shipment |

Güven Paslanmaz is a steel service center operating at Esenkent 1. Cadde, Dudullu OSB, Des San. Sit. No: 22 C-03 Blok, 34775 Ümraniye / İstanbul. Its location may be practical for fabricators on the Anatolian side. It is a good idea to call 0 (216) 415 70 80 before visiting.
On the product side you can find the groups sheet and plate, coil, pipe, square profile, bar, angle, flat bar and decorative sheet; the grade scope is listed on the product pages with codes such as 304/304L, 316/316L, 321, 430 and 409. On the service side there are cut-to-length, slitting, grinding, CNC laser cutting and bending lines. Keep in mind that sizes, thickness limits and lead times are settled in the quote process for each order.

When sheet goes to one place, laser cutting to another and bending to a third, every transfer means a wait, a loading and a risk of damage. In stainless steel, surface scratching is also a visible defect. Work gathered in a single service keeps the material's certificate and label together with the parts as well.
This approach has a limit. For a very high-volume purchase of a single grade and a single size, going directly to a mill line may make more sense. The service center model stands out for variable sizes and lot sizes. For details, see the supply from a service center article.
The biggest source of trouble in stainless steel is material whose grade is not what is written. To prevent this, an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate is requested. This document shows which heat (lot) the sheet came from and the chemical analysis and mechanical values of that heat. Check that the heat number on the certificate matches the label on the sheet.
3.1 is not needed for every job; but in areas such as food, medical, pressure equipment, public works and export, the specification often asks for it. Stating the document at the quote stage is much easier than finding a missing lot later.
A short check when receiving the material prevents a dispute that would arise months later. First the label: do grade, thickness, size and heat number match the order? Then size and thickness: measure at the edge with calipers or a micrometer; thickness tolerance is defined in product standards such as EN ISO 9445, and a small deviation from the nominal value is normal.
Third, the surface: if the sheet is film-coated, is the film intact, is there lifting at the edges? Fourth, packaging: stainless steel sheet stacked without interleaving paper or film between the sheets scratches each other in transport. Fifth, the documents: do the certificate and delivery note show the same lot as the material? These five items take a few minutes. Reporting a deviation you notice at delivery right away also makes it easier to match the lot record and shipping documents.
Asking the company these questions quickly shows what kind of supplier you are talking to. Which grades and surfaces ship from stock, and which come on order? Are cutting, bending and grinding done in-house or sent out to subcontractors? Is a 3.1 certificate issued routinely? Is partial shipment possible? What information is the quote prepared with?

If you are planning cutting and bending, attaching the drawing shortens the process; for preparation, take a look at the laser cutting and bending guides.
The technical references in this article are based on the standards EN 10088-2 (stainless steel sheet and strip), EN ISO 9445 (dimensional tolerances for cold-rolled stainless steel products) and EN 10204 (metallic products, types of inspection documents). Information about Güven Paslanmaz is taken from the product, service and contact pages of the company's website. Stock status, processing capacity and lead time are not stated in the article; these are settled in the quote process for each order.
First, defining the need: grade, thickness, size, surface and quantity. Next comes whether the supplier can perform the required processing (cutting, bending) in-house and, if requested, issue an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.

If the drawing or quantity is known, laser cutting from flat sheet is usually preferred, and cut-to-length from coil for repeating and long parts. Which is suitable is settled at the quote stage according to part geometry and quantity.
No. However, in food, medical, pressure equipment, public and export jobs, the specification mostly asks for it. If you need it, state it at the quote stage.
